Originally planned to be Ard Neakie to Port Vasgo, the trip didn`t go 100% according to plan, but it was a fantastic paddle nonetheless. Having left a car at Vasgo, the plan was to get on the water by about 6am, but some imbecile has put a three digit combination padlock on the gate so we had to carry the boats down a steep and awkward embankment. This made us slightly late setting off, which was just enough to cause us big problems when we arrived at the head. When we got there the east going stream was barely minutes into action, but it was already far too racey to get by with a decent margin for error. If we had tried then we probably would have made it after some arduous paddling, but committing to six miles of unassailably high cliffs on a big, spring tide without knowing what was on the other side of the maelstrom would have been a big risk. So we ended up coming back down Eriboll and exploring the caves, arches, tunnels, and waterfalls which are always a pleasure. A quick visit to the bothy at Freisgill gave us chance to stretch our legs, and then it was a leisurely donder back along the coastline. Unfortunately this change of plan meant that we had to lug the bloody boats back up the steep embankment at the end, which we could have easily done without. All in all a fantastic day on the sea in generally excellent conditions - apart from the head of course.
